Game Three Scare Fails to Keep Muskies from Downing Stevens Point

Athletics - posted on 2/19/2008

Although the Lakeland College men's volleyball team defeated UW-Stevens Point, 3-1, in Wisconsin Volleyball Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 19, it took an extra game for the Muskies to get the job done on their home court.

Lakeland (17-3, 7-1 WVC) looked to be in control during the first two games of the match, winning 30-13, 30-12. However, game three caused the Muskies more difficulty than they may have anticipated, running into extra points that resulted in a 33-31 loss for the home team. However, the squad was able to regroup and come out to win game four with relative ease, 30-16.

Senior middle hitter Avdo Omerbegovic looks to have made a full recovery from a nagging injury that has kept him out for most of the season so far, as he tied with sophomore outside hitter Joe Julkowski for kills leader with nine. The pair also recorded four digs apiece while Omerbegovic added four blocks. Senior outside hitter Devin Doyle also contributed to the offensive cause with eight kills to go with five digs and two blocks.

The Muskies will continue match play with this weekend's Hoosier-Illini Tournament in Bloomington, Ind. Match times and opponents TBA.
