Men's Volleyball Cruises Past Golden Eagles

Athletics - posted on 3/6/2008

The Lakeland College men's volleyball team's offense proved to be too much for Marquette University, as the Muskies picked up another Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match win, 3-0, on Thursday, March 6, at home.

Although the Golden Eagles made the first game of the match somewhat close with the Muskies winning by a tight score of 30-28, the narrow escape seemed to wake up the home squad. Lakeland went on to win the next two games by convincing scores of 30-20 and 30-18 to take the match for its fourth-straight WVC match win.

Junior setter Matt Clemens produced colossal efforts on both offense and defense in the match, tallying 40 assists, 22 digs and even chipping in three blocks. Senior outside hitter Matt Martin led the offensive drive with 14 kills followed by senior right side hitter Andrew Lietz with 10 kills. Martin and Lietz also contributed on the defensive end with 12 and six digs, respectively.

Lakeland will continue match play on Saturday, March 8, with its second Midwest 10 Tournament of the season, hosted by Marquette in Milwaukee, Wis. Match times and teams TBA.
