Holl and Silverberg Receive Top Honors at Awards Banquet

Ryan Holl and Joe Silverberg were named Co-Most Valuable Players for the 2004 season during the annual Lakeland College men's soccer team banquet Sunday.

Holl, a junior center back from Plymouth, Indiana, was a first team All-LMC selection. He was named the team's most outstanding defensive player and had 5 goals on the season.

Silverberg, a junior goalkeeper from South Bend, Indiana, had 3 shutouts and a 1.69 goals against average on the season. Silverberg is now 2nd on the school's all-time list in shutouts (10) and goals against average (1.908).

Sophomore forward Scott Kress was named the team's most outstanding offensive player. Kress, a Kiel native, tallied 12 goals and 4 assists on the season. Kress was named 1st Team All-LMC and 3rd Team All-Region.

Other award winners included seniors Gabe Vollmer and Shuaib Basheer. Vollmer, one of the most talented midfielders in the conference, was limited to just 8 games due to injuries. Basheer, a midfielder from the United Arab Emirates, was named to the Honorable Mention All-LMC team. Both men were honored with 4th year accolades. Sophomore defender Corey Petzold (Kiel) received the Coach's Award for his dedication and team spirit for the men.
