The fifth-seeded Lakeland College softball team dropped games to No. 1 Aurora University, 4-0, and No. 6 Edgewood College, 13-1 in five innings, to end a hopeful run in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament on Saturday, May 3, in Lisle, Ill.
The Muskies' offense ran into trouble in both games, as they were unable to put the ball in play against Aurora and managed just two hits against Edgewood. One of those hits was a home run by freshman right fielder Kayla VandeWettering in the third inning for the squad's solo run of the game.
Sophomore pitcher Sara Roberts suffered the losses in the circle in both games, going the distance against Aurora and racking up eight strikeouts. After throwing three innings and giving up eight hits to the Eagles, Roberts was relieved by sophomore Cassie Felton, who allowed nine hits and eight runs before VandeWettering came in to face the final two batters in the fifth inning.
The Muskies end their season with a 17-20 overall record.
