The Lakeland College men's volleyball team moved to 16-3 on the season following a successful weekend at the Badger Bump-Around Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16, at UW-Madison.
Although the Muskies lost their third match of the season to UW-Oshkosh, ranked No. 1 in the nation, they still managed to take the first game to force the match to three games with close scores of 25-15, 20-25, 13-15.
Despite the loss, the squad crushed the competition in its other five matches of the day, 2-0, rolling over Northwestern once and downing UW-Madison and UW-Milwaukee twice.
Senior right side hitter Andrew Lietz, middle hitter Jared Rohland and junior outside hitter Joe Julkowski provided much of the Muskies' offense for the day, with Rohland knocking down a team tournament-high 10 kills in the first match against UW-Madison. Lietz and Julkowski were also steady, as Lietz had eight kills in two matches while Julkowski recorded eight kills against Northwestern and seven in the first match vs. UW-Milwaukee.
Senior defensive specialist Shawn Voelz headed up the defensive efforts with 13 digs against UW-Milwaukee, while Lietz also helped out with 10 digs.
The Muskies will return to their home court to resume Wisconsin Volleyball Conference action with UW-Stevens Point on Tuesday, Feb. 19. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Woltzen Gymnasium.
