The Lakeland College baseball team snagged its first win of the season after going 1-1 in a non-conference doubleheader against Manchester College (Ind.) on Monday, March 17, in North Manchester, Ind.

The Muskies (1-4 overall) won the second game of the day, 8-2, after falling in game one, 4-2. Freshman Bill Miller had a solid outing in his first collegiate start on the mound, picking up the win in the second game. He pitched six innings with four strikeouts before senior reliever Adam Hablewitz came in to finish off the game.

Both teams were deadlocked at two in that second game until the sixth inning when the Muskies went ahead by two, then scored three more runs in the seventh inning to lengthen the lead. Sophomore Doug Novak and freshman Andrew Schartner led the squad at the plate with two hits and two RBIs apiece.

Freshman pitcher Matt Katzman suffered the loss in the first game, but put forth a strong showing after walking the first two batters he faced.

Lakeland will continue its spring break road trip with Wilmington College on Tuesday, March 18. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.
