Athletics - posted on 4/20/2008
After 16 painstaking innings, the second game of the Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader between the Lakeland College baseball team and Dominican University was decided in favor of Dominican, 6-5, on Sunday, April 20, in River Forest, Ill.
The game had originally been started as the second game of a doubleheader held between both teams at Lakeland on April 14, but the contest was called on account of darkness with the score deadlocked at five runs apiece after 13 innings.
Today, the Muskies (8-20, 5-11 NAC) were unable to answer back after the Stars scored the winning run off an RBI single at the top of the 16th inning.
Junior Mike Phillips was tagged with the loss in the game, throwing all three innings played today with four hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
Freshmen Cal Post, Andrew Schartner and Roberto Flores led the team at the plate with three hits apiece. Post also hit for power a double and a triple to his credit, while freshman Ryan Polizzi tallied a his first career home run in the fifth inning.
Lakeland will look to get back on track and end its current seven-game losing streak with a non-conference doubleheader against Carthage College on Tuesday, April 22. Game start time is set for 1 p.m. at Lakeland.
