Lakeland men's soccer tabbed seventh in NAC preseason poll
Athletics - posted on 8/28/2008
The Lakeland College men's soccer team has been selected to finish seventh in the Northern Athletics Conference by the league's coaches in a preseason poll released late Wednesday by the conference.
The Muskies (4-6 NAC, 4-14 overall), who were defeated last season by Edgewood College in the quarterfinals of the NAC Tournament, return just five upperclassmen while adding 16 freshmen to this season's roster. The team is led by senior midfielder Kevin Fitchett (Green Bay), who led the team with six goals and 43 shots taken while also notching three assists in 2007.
NAC coaches unanimously selected Dominican University to record its third-straight conference title in 2008. The Stars (9-0-1, 17-4-1) were an NCAA Division III championship tournament participant in 2007, and return four first team all-conference honorees from a year ago. The Muskies will make the trip to River Forest, Ill., on Sept. 20 to face the two-time defending champs in their second conference match of the season.
Aurora University (8-0-2, 12-4-5), which has finished second to Dominican in each of the past two seasons, is selected to finish as runner-up for the third consecutive year.
