Medard tabbed conference player of the week
Athletics - posted on 10/7/2008
Senior strong safety Justin Medard has received the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week in football (defensive) for the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5, the league announced late Monday.

Medard, a native of Evanston, Ill., posted 12 tackles, including two for a loss, one pass breakup, a sack and an interception, helping the Muskies hang on 33-28 in last Saturday's Homecoming game against Rockford.
"On Saturday, Justin was all over the field, whether it be covering kicks or in pass coverage,"
Lakeland defensive coordinator Colin Bruton said. "He was just a physical presence all over the field, making tackles and playing sideline to sideline. We put him up near the line of scrimmage, being that
Rockford is a team that likes to run the ball, and he was playing like a linebacker. That shows you how tough of a kid he really is."
Medard's fourth-quarter pick helped Lakeland seal a victory in the inaugural week of NAC football. For the season, he is third on the team with 29 tackles and tied for second with 4.0 tackles for loss.
"I'm really happy for Justin, it's a great honor for him," head coach Kevin Doherty said. "He's really stepped his game up from last year as far as learning our system. Now he's more of a mentor back there for our young defensive backs, and he's accepted that role and run with it."
Each week, the league's head coaches nominate a player from their own team to be voted on for each sport by NAC sports information directors.
