Muskies finish off weekend in Los Angeles with win

The Lakeland women's volleyball team capped a 1-3 weekend in Los Angeles, Calif., with a 3-1 victory over La Sierra University late Saturday night.
The win capped a two-day, four-match non-conference swing out west for the Muskies.
"It was a nice win," Lakeland head coach Chad Schreiber said. "We were able to experiment with some different line-ups as well as win the match."
The Muskies (17-8, 9-0 Northern Athletics Conference) were defeated earlier that evening by Nebraska Wesleyan University 3-1.
On Friday, Lakeland gave La Verne University, the nation's No. 3 team, all it could handle in the first set, but came up short on the way to a 3-0 loss (25-21, 25-11, 25-9). Junior outside hitter Brittanie Paulus led the Muskies with seven kills and 13 digs.
The Muskies also came up short against Chapman University in Friday's second match. The team took a 2-1 lead before dropping the final two sets for a 3-2 setback (23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 15-7). Paulus tallied 19 kills and 17 digs, while setters Jessica Sparling and Kristine Raeder posted 25 assists apiece.
"We really struggled with our serve receives on Friday night, and were unable to recover from that," Schreiber said.
After arriving in California on Thursday, the Muskies will return home late Sunday night.
Lakeland returns to NAC play this week. The Muskies will host Wisconsin Lutheran this Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Lakeland.
