Heinemeyer awarded conference player of the week
Athletics - posted on 11/4/2008
Junior wide receiver/returner Jake Heinemeyer has received the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week in football (special teams) for the week of Oct.

27-Nov. 2, the league announced late Monday.
Heinemeyer broke loose on a kickoff return last Saturday in the Muskies' 29-14 victory at Maranatha Baptist Bible College. After the Crusaders scored with 24 seconds left in the first half, the Shiocton native took the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to close the Lakeland deficit to 7-6.
"Jacob's one of our most explosive athletes," Lakeland head coach Kevin Doherty said. "He's very dangerous when he touches the ball, and I was very excited to see him take one to the house at a crucial time. We answered Maranatha's interception return for a touchdown right away, and that got a little spark going for us."
Heinemeyer, who is tied for the team lead with 783 all-purpose yards, is also the team's second-leading receiver with 23 receptions for 437 yards and four touchdowns.

As an offensive leader and one of the team's captains, Heinemeyer's play will be integral to the Muskies' run for a second consecutive conference title.
"He's one of our most explosive players, and he also does a great job for us receiving the ball," Doherty said. "Every time Jacob touches the ball, he is a threat to score. I'm really proud of him."
Each week, NAC head coaches nominate a player from their own team to be voted on for each sport by the league's sports information directors.
