Muskies down Marquette, remain unbeaten in conference

The No. 12 Lakeland men's volleyball team made comebacks in each set to knock off No. 18 Marquette 25-22, 25-21, 29-27 on Thursday night in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference match at Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies (7-2, 3-0 WVC) remained unbeaten in conference play with a pair of league match-ups looming this weekend.
Despite injuries to a pair of starters, Lakeland fought back from behind in each set, needing extra time in the third set to put the Golden Eagles away.
"Our serving struggled again and we made some simple plays look hard, but we came back from three separate deficits to get that victory," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said.
The raucous home crowd also played a factor, steering the Muskies to success on crucial points throughout the contest.
"We had another great crowd tonight," Schreiber said. "It was a very good, well-played volleyball match that was fun to watch."
Offensively, sophomore middle hitter Beau Bradshaw (Oak Lawn, Ill.) led the way with 10 kills. Middle hitter Avdo Omerbegovic (Chicago, Ill.) collected seven kills (.636 hitting percentage) and eight blocks up front for the Muskies.
Freshman setter Mitch Wiskirchen (Schaumburg, Ill.) tallied 35 assists for Lakeland.
Defensively, outside hitters Joe Julkowski (Carol Stream, Ill.) and Perry Ringfelt (Elwood, Ill.) posted nine and eight digs, respectively. Ringfelt, a junior, also had seven blocks.
The Muskies host a pair of WVC contests this weekend. Lakeland will face UW-Platteville on Saturday at 7 p.m., and UW-La Crosse at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
