Day 4: Georgetown, Texas

Athletics - posted on 12/19/2008

Assistant director of sports information Chris Lindeke brings you daily coverage from Georgetown, Texas, where the Lakeland men's basketball team will play Trinity on Thursday, Dec. 18 and Southwestern on Friday, Dec. 19.

With the game tonight, today was pretty much the same as yesterday for the Lakeland men's basketball team and the rest of the travel party.

After shooting around at Southwestern at noon, the team headed to Applebee's for the pregame meal.

After some down time, we headed to Southwestern at around 5:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. tip-off.

The Muskies were defeated 55-51 by the Pirates at the Robertson Center. After an Anthony Cox Jumpber puut Southwestern ahead 47-41 with 1:32 left in the game, Lakeland couldn't get within two points for the remainder of the contest. In the defensive battle, neither team shot above 35 percent and the squads combined for 48 personal fouls.

Following the game, I had a chance to sit down with the Muskies' lone senior, forward Peter Worth, for a couple minutes. Worth posted 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Here are his thoughts on tonight's game, the trip in general and his break plans.

On tonight's game: "We didn't capitalize on the little things and were hurt by some of their second-chance opportunities. Missed free throws were also a factor."

On the state of the team following the trip: "It was nice to go on this trip and get away from school, but to go from 4-1 to 4-3 isn't fun, and it's really kind of a slap in the face. We're not where we need to be right now, but I am confident that we can get there."

On the trip as a whole: "It was really good to get off of campus and a nice way to get away for a while. Even though we are always hanging out on campus, it was nice to do some different things as a team, especially when we went shopping at the outlet mall on Wednesday."

On break plans: "I just want to relax, rest up some bangs and bruises and get healthy. At the same time, though, we need to make sure we're staying in shape. I will get to the gym and get some shots up. In the big picture of things, hopefully we can regroup in what I believe to be the second half of the season [with practice starting in mid-October]."

The guys are pretty beat, and the group as a whole seems to be pretty exhausted. This may be wishful thinking, but we're hoping for smooth traveling into Chicago and back to Sheboygan at some point tomorrow.
