TUCSON, Ariz.-  The Lakeland College softball team split a pair of games against fellow Wisconsin schools, falling first to UW-La Crosse 9-1 before defeating UW-Platteville 12-0 at the Tucson Invitational Games.

"We couldn't put together a complete effort against La Crosse," Lakeland head coach Chad Buchmann said. "We tried some girls at different positions today, and we failed to make routine plays."

Christina Moore (New London) was 2-for-2 at the plate for the Muskies with a triple  against the Falcons. Sam Shepeck (Gladstone, Mich.) also added a three-bagger in her lone official at-bat.

Game two of the day was a different story as the Muskies put up four runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the sixth as Lakeland (2-4) trounced UW-Platteville 12-0.

Moore added three more hits to her total, including a triple and double as she went 5-for-5 on the day. Leah Sheahan (Salem) was 2-for-3 with a double as the Muskies put together 12 hits in their best all-around game of the young season.

"We hit the ball and ran the bases very well as a team," said Buchmann. "It's always nice to end the day on a win. We got to play all of our players today and our freshmen are getting more and more experienced every day this week."

Sara Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) rung up eight Falcons in the shutout victory.

Lakeland returns to action tomorrow afternoon in Tucson with games against Wesleyan and Schreiner.
