Lakeland men's tennis picked eighth in preseason poll

Athletics - posted on 2/9/2009

The Lakeland men's tennis team has been selected to finish in a tie for eighth place in the Northern Athletics Conference preseason coaches' poll released by the league on Monday.

The Muskies finished without a dual victory in 2008, but placed sixth at the NAC Tournament.

Lakeland sophomore Andre Glass (Kenosha) captured the No. 1 singles title in the tournament and was named the conference Player of the Year. Glass was a perfect 7-0 in NAC duals last season.

Two-time defending conference champion Concordia, Wis., was picked by the coaches to win a third consecutive title.

Lakeland opens its 2009 campaign this Saturday at Lawrence. The Muskies will face Lake Forest at 10 a.m., followed by a dual contest against Lawrence at 12:30 p.m.

The winner of the conference tournament championship will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
