Athletics - posted on 3/4/2009

Two members of the Lakeland College women's basketball team earned Northern Athletics Conference accolades as the post-season awards were announced Tuesday.

Junior KC Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) was awarded second team All-NAC honors and freshman Autumn Gaylor (Ingleside, Ill.) was named to the All-Rookie squad.

Blahnik, also a second team All-NAC choice last season, was the most consistent player this season for the Muskies. She led the team in points (11.7 ppg), rebounds (7.8 rpg), assists (52), and s teals (42). She shot 43 percent from the floor on the year and led Lakeland in points 11 times this season while grabbing the most rebounds in 21 contests.

"KC brought it every game on offense and defense for us this season," said Lakeland head coach Teri Johnson. "Her rebounding capability really helped us and we're excited about having her back next season."

Gaylor emerged toward the middle of the season, giving the Muskies another option down low. She ended the season second in points for Lakeland (9.5 ppg), finished 8th in the NAC with a 48 percent shooting average and led the team in blocks (16).

"We are really excited about Autumn's future," Johnson said. "Her tenacity really started to show later in the season. It took her a little while to get acclimated with what we expect her do, but she had some big games where she shut players down."
