Lakeland drops first conference match since 2006

MEQUON, Wis. - The Lakeland women's volleyball team suffered its first Northern Athletics Conference defeat of the season, losing 12-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21 at Concordia, Wis.

Including both regular season and tournament matches, the loss snapped a 35-match conference winning streak for the Muskies (13-5 overall, 5-1 NAC). Lakeland hadn't lost to a league opponent since 2006.

The Falcons (14-5, 5-2) gained momentum near the end of the first set, which carried over into the second set and was held for the remainder of the contest.

"I thought we made a step in the right direction on Saturday at MSOE, but we gave up a few too many points and made some mistakes in the back row," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said.

The serving of CUW, along with the energy of a raucous crowd, was too much for the Muskies to overcome.

Senior outside hitter Brittanie Paulus (Belgium, Wis.) led the Muskie attack with 11 kills and 27 digs. Middle hitter Allison Davis (Sheboygan, Wis.) finished with nine kills, while Kristine Raeder tallied 33 assists and 11 digs.

Concordia was the last team to defeat Lakeland in regular season play, when they knocked off the Muskies 3-2 back on Oct. 7, 2006.

Lakeland returns to action this Friday at Dominican for a 7 p.m. showdown in River Forest, Ill.
