Lakeland drops second consecutive NAC match

Athletics - posted on 10/9/2009

The Lakeland women's volleyball team suffered a 25-16, 25-17, 18-25, 25-23 defeat at Dominican in a Northern Athletics Conference contest on Friday night.

The Muskies (13-6 overall, 5-2 NAC) have now lost back-to-back league matches for the first time since 2006.

Despite finishing with more kills than the Stars (13-8, 6-2), Lakeland was unable to avoid small lapses in play, resulting in a setback.

"We ran our offense in the back row because our passing wasn't there," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said. "(Dominican) served aggressively and passed well; they were in rhythm. When we corrected things in third and fourth sets, we still had individual errors that cost us any momentum."

Senior middle hitter Kim Linger (Eldorado, Wis.) paced the Lakeland offensive attack with 14 kills and four blocks, both team highs. Junior setter Kristine Raeder (Oostburg, Wis.) led the defense with 18 digs to go along with 39 assists.

Lakeland returns to action against Concordia Chicago tomorrow at 12 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
