Lakeland volleyball sweeps CUC

After losing consecutive Northern Athletics Conference matches, the Lakeland women's volleyball team got back on the winning track with a 27-25, 25-20, 25-23 victory at Concordia Chicago on Saturday afternoon.

The Muskies (14-6 overall, 6-2 NAC), who lost a conference regular season match for the first time since 2006 at Concordia, Wis., on Tuesday, received another standout performance from sophomore middle hitter Allison Davis.

Davis (Sheboygan) now has 30 kills and eight blocks in her last three matches after a 10-kill, three-block performance against Concordia Chicago (10-9, 4-4). She also posted a stellar .529 hitting percentage, and has committed one attack error in the team's last two contests.

"Allison has found her swing," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said. "She has played three solid matches in a row, and is finding ways to block balls she shouldn't by sprinting into position."

Lakeland also received solid contributions from senior outside hitter Kaylyn Kasper (Hilbert, Wis.), who had a team-high 12 kills and eight digs, and senior middle hitter Kim Linger (Eldorado, Wis.), who posted 11 kills and three service aces.

"We are serving better and blocking better, and we were able to run our offense out of the middle," Schreiber said. "Right now, we're just trying to find a lineup combination that works."

Lakeland hosts Maranatha Baptist this Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Moose & Dona Woltzen Gymnasium.
