Lakeland struggles at Titan Tussle

The Lakeland women's volleyball fought to four sets in two matches, but came out winless in four matches on Friday and Saturday at the Titan Tussle hosted by UW-Oshkosh.

The highlight of the tournament came when the Muskies (15-10 overall, 7-2 Northern Athletics Conference) took the first set against St. Thomas, which is ranked ninth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Coaches Top 25. Lakeland would drop the final three sets, however, losing 23-25, 25-19, 25-13, 25-6.

On Saturday, the Muskies dropped matches against St. Catherine (21-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-5) and Illinois Wesleyan (25-21, 28-26, 25-23).

Lakeland was knocked off by No. 6 Carthage in the team's first match of the tournament on Friday night by a score of 25-13, 25-8, 25-22.

For the tournament, senior outside hitter Brittanie Paulus (Belgium, Wis.) led the team with 42 kills, while junior setter Kristine Raeder (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) recorded a team-high 8.36 assists per set.

Defensively, senior libero Tonia Strebelinski (Berlin, Wis.) averaged a team-leading 5.07 digs per set, while senior middle hitter Kim Linger (Eldorado, Wis.) paced the Muskies with 12 blocks.

The Muskies return to conference play this Tuesday at Marian at 7 p.m.
