Ruzek garners weekly NAC honor
Athletics - posted on 3/31/2009
Lakeland sophomore Mike Ruzek has been named the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week in baseball (pitching) for the week of March 23-29, the league announced late Monday.
Ruzek, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound right-handed pitcher, picked up his second win of the season last Friday at Wisconsin Lutheran when he tossed eight innings,

surrendering just one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out six.
"'Ruz' did a great job," Lakeland coach Chris Thousand said. "Wisconsin Lutheran is a good hitting team, as they showed in the second game, but he just had his stuff going. He pitched great for eight innings."
The Manitowoc native left with the bases loaded with no outs in the ninth, but was picked up by sophomore Bill Miller, who retired the first three batters he faced to help the Muskies to a 3-2 victory.
Ruzek was also dominant in his second start of the year, when he tossed a complete-game shutout against St. Michael's on March 20 in Ft. Myers, Fla.
"I think the team gets excited when he's on the mound," Thousand said. "He helps carry the team to a new level."
After sweeping Wisconsin Lutheran in Friday's doubleheader, the Muskies have won four of their last five games.
Each week, the league's head coaches nominate a player from their own team to be voted on for each sport by NAC sports information directors.
