SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland men's soccer team remained undefeated in Northern Athletics Conference play with a 4-1 victory over Concordia Chicago in its league home opener.

The Muskies (3-1-1, 2-0 NAC) tallied a pair of goals in each half and were never behind in the contest.

Lakeland's scoring effort was highlighted in the 35th minute, when sophomore Danny Spatchek (Chilton, Wis.) lobbed a shot perfectly over the CUC goalkeeper from just outside the box. The goal, which was assisted by freshman Thomas Grams and senior Ted Cormier, gave Lakeland a 2-0 advantage.

"We played really well," Lakeland coach David Madsen said. "We were active, we created a lot of good chances and we finished those opportunities as well."

Cormier (Green Bay, Wis.), playing in his first match of the 2009 season, came through with his second assist when he found a streaking Jeremy Hardy (Cooks, Mich.) at the opposite post in the 76th minute. The goal came two minutes after Concordia Chicago (1-4-1, 1-1) had trimmed the Muskie lead to 3-1.

"Ted really showed that he's hungry to play," Madsen said. "He set up a couple of our goals ... and I think that's where Ted can be at his best. He creates such attention defensively. He can score goals, but he can also create goals."

The Muskies struck first in the match when sophomore Adam Benson (Anoka, Minn.) found freshman Jacob Kleinschmidt (Neenah, Wis.) at the far post in the 25th minute.

Lakeland sophomore Ben Koepsell (Cedar Grove, Wis.) rebounded a missed shot in the 57th minute for his third goal of the season.

Freshman Alex Piekarski (Menasha, Wis.) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Muskies, tallying four saves.

Lakeland returns to action on Monday for a home contest against North Park at 4:30 p.m.
