Muskies struggle in Luther finale

Athletics - posted on 9/6/2009

The Lakeland College women's soccer team couldn't contain a powerful Luther College offensive attack, giving up eight first half goals in a 14-0 loss to close out the Luther Labor Day Classic in Decorah, Iowa.

Dani Meirick scored twice in the first ten minutes for Luther as the Norse finished with eight players registering goals. Meirick and teammate Kelsey Balk each finished with hat tricks as Luther peppered the Lakeland goal with 56 shots and 30 shots on goal.

Kristina Borts and Jess Hopfinger recorded a shot each on offense for Lakeland on a day where the Muskies struggled on both sides of the field.

Goalkeeper Whitney England stopped 16 of 30 shots on the afternoon.

Lakeland returns to action on Wednesday, September 9, with a 7 p.m. contest at Elmhurst.
