Athletics - posted on 9/26/2009
SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland men's soccer team suffered its first Northern Athletics Conference loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to three-time defending league champion Dominican 12-0.
The Muskies (3-3-1 overall, 2-1 NAC) were unable to get anything going offensively, mustering only two shots on goal for the match.
The Stars (5-1-2, 3-0), who are ranked fourth in the Central Region in the latest adidas/NSCAA Division III poll, dominated possession from the opening kick. Four Dominican players scored two or more goals, including freshman Tyler Mercier, who had four off the bench.
Goalkeeper Ross Soukup (Plymouth, Wis.) stopped seven shots for Lakeland, which was shut out for just the second time this season.
Lakeland returns to its home field tomorrow for a non-conference match against St. Mary's (Minn.) at 12:30 p.m.
