The Lakeland College women's soccer team was unable to capitalize on any offensive chances Thursday night, falling 5-0 in a non-conference contest against Lawrence University in Appleton.
Still looking for their first win of the season, the Muskies (0-8, 0- 3 NAC) we able to fire off 10 shots, including six on goal, but could not find the back of the net. Sophomore Kristina Borts (Milwaukee) led the offensive effort with four shots and three attempts on goal.
Goalkeeper Whitney England (Ashwaubenon) stopped nine shots and allowed five goals as Lawrence peppered the Lakeland zone with 30 shots on the night.
Mallory Koula and Marcia Silveira each tallied two goals apiece for the Vikings as they entered halftime with a 3-0 lead and added a pair in the second half for the five goal victory.
"We started coming into the game after Lawrence scored their first goal 15 minutes in," Lakeland coach Dave Madsen said. "We had a shot in the first half that hit the cross bar and other missed attempts that could have made a difference. In the second half the girls played hard and fought for attempts off a couple of corners."
Lakeland returns to action on Saturday, September 24 as the back end of a men's-women's doubleheader against Dominican. The Lakeland men take the pitch at 12:30 p.m. followed by the women's match at 3 p.m.
