Lakeland shut out by Beloit

SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland men's soccer team suffered its second consecutive home setback, falling 2-0 to non-conference opponent Beloit on a cold, damp Friday afternoon at the Lakeland soccer fields.
Scoring opportunities were scarce for the Muskies (6-7-1, 5-3 Northern Athletics Conference), who mustered only five shots, including one on goal, for the contest.
Beloit (6-2-4, 1-1-2 Midwest Conference) was able to impose its will on the Muskies, scoring in the 34th and 79th minutes and compiling 16 shots in the game.
"We played passively, and didn't create much going forward," Lakeland coach David Madsen said. "We gave them a little too much space defensively, and Beloit took advantage. We didn't react to that and didn't counter."
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Piekarski (Menasha, Wis.) saved seven shots for the Muskies.
Lakeland concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule this Sunday at home against Finlandia. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
