Muskies shut out at Maranatha
Athletics - posted on 10/20/2009
Unable to rebound after two first-half goals, the Lakeland College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 Northern Athletics Conference contest Tuesday afternoon in Watertown, Wis.
The Muskies (4-13, 2-8 NAC) gave up scores at 2:56 and 22:21 in the first half. Elise Jones and Katie Foy picked up the goals for Maranatha (5-9, 3-6) as the Crusaders stopped 12 Lakeland shots on goal.
"We were completely outworked in the first half," Lakeland head coach Dave Madsen said. "We had a few chances but it was frustrating.
Lakeland out shot Maranatha 21-17 in the match, including 13-9 in the second half.
"We played well in the second half and dictated the pace of play," Madsen said. "They played the way we are capable of playing but by that point it was too late. Maranatha played the way they needed to and we were unable to match that intensity."
Lakeland returns home on Saturday, October 24, hosting Aurora at 3:30.
