Lady Muskie's soccer falls to Maryville 3-2

The Lady Muskies took on Maryville today on a hot muggy day at Augustana College Soccer tournament today. The Lady Muskies entered the tournament at 1-0, looking to build off their win against Ripon College on Tuesday.

The Muskies faced off against Maryville in the first round of the tournament, looking to stay unbeaten and hand the Saints of Maryville their first loss of the year. The Muskies fell behind early, when Jessica Newsham of Maryville scored at the 10:04 mark. Maryville was able to find holes all over in the Muskie defense as again at the 13 minute mark Karen Boevinglon of Maryville scored again off of a corner kick to make the score 2-0.

The Muskie defense grew stingier and the offense came alive. At the 29 minute mark Amanda Smith (Neenah) scored unassisted to put the Muskies on the board with a score of 2-1. Amanda Smith then took control of the game and again at the 35 minute mark scored another unassisted goal for the Muskies to tie the game at 2-2. The Muskies would take their tie into the locker room at halftime.

The Muskie defense held up for most of the 2nd half, but Maryville managed to score the go-ahead goal at the 58 minute mark to put the Saints up for good, 3-2. The Muskie offense would put together a few final strikes, but could not come up with a goal. The Muskies would fall by the final of 3-2. With the loss, the Muskies drop to 1-1. Their next match will be tomorrow versus Augustana College at 2pm.
