Athletics - posted on 4/9/2009
KC Blahnik hit two home runs and scored five times as the Muskies took a pair of games against Concordia Wisconsin Thursday afternoon 7-5 and 9-2 in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader.
Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) led off the Muskie attack with a lead-off homer deep to left field. Lakeland (13-5, 6-0 NAC) added two more on a suicide squeeze, and later singled three straight at-bats to take an early 3-0 lead.
Concordia countered back in the second, scoring twice on a pair of hits and an early error.
The Muskies responded that same inning with two of their own. Kelly Bolton scored Corine Demske (Wrightstown) on a double, and Blahnik tripled to drive in Bolton to give Lakeland a 7-3 advantage.
Concordia added a run in each the fourth and seventh innings, leaving the bases loaded in the seventh as Lakeland took the first game 7-5.
Sara Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) threw seven solid innings as she picked up her eighth win of the season. She gave up 10 hits and one walk as all five of Concordia's runs were unearned.
Blahnik, Coenen, Shepeck and Demske all tallied multiple hits as the Muskies pounded out a total of 14 in six innings.
Lakeland ended game two as solid as it started the opener. Tied at threes in the fourth, Alyssa Nelson (Germantown) drove in a pair of Muskies to put Lakeland up two.
After adding a solo run in the fifth, four Muskies came around to score in the sixth inning. Cori Zornacki (Colorado Springs, Colo.) drove in the first on a sac fly to right field. Nelson followed with a single to drive in her third run of the game, and Coenen later drove in a pair as Lakeland put game two out of reach at 9-2.
Cassie Felton (Green Bay) won her third game on the season, pitching seven innings and giving up two earned runs on nine hits.
The Muskes, winners of 11 straight, return to action Saturday in a NAC road doubleheader at Edgewood starting a 1 p.m.
