SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland baseball team found itself on the wrong end of several big innings in a pair of losses, 13-5 and 19-3, against Edgewood in a Northern Athletics Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Lakeland.
The Muskies (9-15, 4-6 NAC) surrendered three innings of six runs or more in the two contests, resulting in double-digit deficits.
In Game 1, the first-place Eagles (17-6, 8-0) tallied eight runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead, taking advantage of seven hits and a crucial Lakeland error. Starting pitcher Lee Chepil, who took his second loss of the season, allowed nine hits and three walks in four innings of work while striking out four. Three of his eight runs were unearned.
The Muskies, who posted just five hits in the game, were led by junior catcher Brad Chrudimsky, who was 3-for-5 with an RBI.
Things didn't get much better for Lakeland in the second game.
After touching home plate six times in the first inning, the Eagles emerged with 10 runs in the second frame to take a 16-0 lead. Most of the damage came off Lakeland starting pitcher Bill Miller, who was pulled with no one out in the second.
Edgewood finished with 20 hits in the contest.
Chrudimsky, junior centerfielder Jacob Heinemeyer and sophomore shortstop Brad Young each knocked in a run for Lakeland in Game 2.
Lakeland returns to action on Monday for a doubleheader at Dominican. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. in River Forest, Ill. Monday's contests begin a 10-game stretch in an eight-day span for the Muskies.
