Lakeland trio receives NFCA honors

Three Lakeland softball players have been selected to the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III All-Region Teams.

KC Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) was named to the first team of the Great Lakes Region at second base, and Sara Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) and Christina Moore (New London) were both second team honorees.

Blahnik, the NAC player of the year this season, broke five single-season individual Lakeland hitting records this year, setting new marks for hits, batting average, runs scored, and home runs. She led the NAC and was ranked third in the nation this season with a .524 batting average and also led the conference in on-base percentage (.605), runs (63), hits (66), home runs (11) and walks (25), and was second in slugging percentage (.905).

Roberts, a first team All-NAC selection, broke three single-season records this season, setting new marks in games started (29), wins (21) and shutouts (8). She broke the Lakeland all-time strikeout record in Arizona this spring and has fanned 279 batters in three seasons. She ranked fourth in the NAC in ERA (1.93) and was second in the conference in wins as she compiled a record of 21-7 this season.

Moore was awarded second team All-NAC and All-Freshman NAC honors this season. She was second on the team in runs batted in (42), third in batting average (.446), hits (54) and slugging percentage (.711) while serving as the Muskies' catcher this season.
