Muskies lead coast to coast in victory

The Lakeland College women's basketball team won big for the third consecutive game Tuesday night, knocking off Finlandia University 77-57 in a non-conference contest at Wolzen Gymnasium.
The Muskies (4-0) forced a season-high 35 turnovers, including 25 in the first half, and had eight players register at least one steal in the decisive victory.
Chelsea Coenen (Wrightstown) and KC Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) came up big again for Lakeland. The team's top two scorers, Coenen led the way with 23 points and seven rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting. Blahnik put up 18 points with a game-high nine boards.
Once again Lakeland got off to a hot start in the first half, scoring the first seven points of the game and outscoring the Lions 39-19 at the break.
Finlandia could only force the difference down to 15 points as the Muskies led by at least 20 points for a majority of the second half.
Defensive specialist Terra Hiben (Boyceville) grabbed a game-high four steals and is averaging 3.24 steals per game.
Lakeland has won its previous three games by an average of 19.6 points and has not led by fewer than 18 points at halftime in that span.
They look to continue their unbeaten streak to open the season on Saturday, Nov. 28, in the conference opener at Rockford. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
