Athletics - posted on 12/5/2009
The Lakeland College wrestling team finished in second place Saturday at the MSOE Invite in Milwaukee, Wis.
"We did very well today," Lakeland wrestling coach Pete Rogers said. " We had a couple of heartbreaking ends to matches in the finals, and it was disappointing to not win the team championship, but it was an exciting day today."
Seniors Adam Sutter (HWT) and Jake Frias (165) and freshman Ryan Renon (157) each took home championships in their respective weight classes.
The victory was the first collegiate tournament victory for Frias, and both Frias and Renon have collected 11 wins through four dates of competition.
Jake Montie and Rob Frias took second place at 141 and 133, respectively, as each lost by a point in their championship matches.
A.J. Aronstam also finished in second at 197 as he wrestled in his first tournament of the year.
Lakeland also had Bill Wood place third at heavyweight and Derek Flok finish fourth at 165 behind champions Sutter and Frias.
Chris Weber rounded out Lakeland wrestlers who placed with a 4th place finish at 184.
Lakeland returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the University of Dubuque Duals in Dubuque, Iowa.
