Lakeland records dual victory on Senior Night

SHEBOYGAN - The Lakeland wrestling team won seven of 10 matches en route to a 36-13 dual victory over Concordia, Wis., in a Northern Wrestling Association showdown at the Wehr Center Field House.

Prior to the match, seniors Ben Chapman, Chris Collins, Jake Frias, David May and Adam Sutter were recognized in the final home match of their respective careers.

Chapman (Plymouth, Wis.) and Sutter (Gladstone, Mich.) each scored victories in their respective bouts. Chapman, a 157-pounder, won by technical fall over Concordia's Chris Hamberger, 18-2, while Sutter pinned Travis Pagel of the Falcons in 2:28 at 285 pounds.

"Ben's dedication to the program is apparent by his winning NWA championships at 149 and 174, two weights that aren't even close to each other," Lakeland coach Pete Rogers said. "He's a team player, and his time is now ... he's at a comfortable weight and has high goals."

Sutter, an All-American last season, looked equally impressive.

"Sutter is looking tough," Rogers said. "He's exciting to watch, and he's in a great spot both mentally and physically. He looked really good, and he can wrestle with anybody."

Sophomore Rob Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) also registered a big win with a technical fall over Kurt Kemnitz, 16-0, at 133 pounds.

Down 10-5 after the first three rounds, the Muskies (6-9) recovered to win six of their last seven matches, starting with Isaac Roberson's action-packed 21-11 major decision over CUW's Steve Taylor at 149.

At 184 pounds, freshman Ryan Renon (DePere, Wis.) picked up his 20th victory of the season with a 12-4 major decision over Aaron Bergen.

"Renon is a hammer, a stud," Rogers said.

The Falcons moved to 1-2 in dual matches on the season.

The Muskies return to action on Jan. 29-30 for the two-day Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational. Matches are set to begin at 1 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday in Wheaton, Ill.
