Lakeland finishes 3-1 at Pizza Hut Classic as Paulus stars

The Lakeland women's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Saturday to finish with a 3-1 record at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic in Oshkosh, Wis.

The Muskies (6-2) finished the day with a lengthy 18-25, 25-17, 25-16, 12-25, 15-12 win over Augustana. Following the conclusion of tournament play, senior outside hitter Brittanie Paulus, who broke the Lakeland career digs record on Friday night, was named to the All-Tournament team.

Paulus (Belgium, Wis.) led the Muskies with 17 kills and 19 digs in the day's final match. Senior middle hitter Kim Linger (Eldorado, Wis.) posted a team-high 19 kills, while junior setter Kristine Raeder (Oostburg, Wis.) registered 47 assists and 14 digs.

"Considering what happened this weekend and last weekend, we are still fighting some individual mental battles," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber said. "We fought some battles, but our team mentality was OK today."

In the first match of the day, Lakeland knocked off Lake Forest 25-23, 14-25, 25-14, 25-16.

Paulus (17 kills), Linger (11) and senior outside hitter Kaylyn Kasper (14) led the Muskie offensive attack in that match. Raeder (18 digs), Paulus (14) and senior libero Tonia Strebelinski (13) paced the defense.

"We broke down with our serve receive often, and we made poor choices offensively at times," Schreiber said, "but we found a way to get it done at the right times."

Lakeland hosts Alverno on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in its Northern Athletics Conference opener. The Muskies defeated the Inferno 25-10, 25-14, 25-4 back on Sept. 4 at the Muskie Classic at Lakeland.
