Petit earns weekly NAC honor

Athletics - posted on 9/22/2009

Lakeland sophomore Gary Petit has received Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week honors in men's golf for the week of Sept. 14-20, the league announced late Monday.

Petit, a Monroe, Wis., native, fired a 7-over 151 (75-76) at the two-day Ripon College Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Mascoutin G.C. in Berlin, Wis.

"Gary played really well this weekend," Lakeland coach Tyler Bormann said. "He was very accurate into the greens and put himself in great position on a lot of holes. He was aggressive on the greens, which gave him a great chance to make putts."

Petit's performance helped the Muskies to second place in the five-team tournament. The team carded a 640 (316-324) at the event.

Petit notched All-NAC accolades last season after finishing 14th at the NAC Championship.

"If he continues to aggressively roll the ball the way he has been, I think he has a chance to challenge at the NAC Championships," Bormann said.
