Horstmeier named special teams student-athlete of the week
Athletics - posted on 11/17/2009
Lakeland kicker Nic Horstmeier (Random Lake) has been named the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week from Monday, Nov.9 to Sunday, Nov. 15.
He averaged 41.2 yards per punt on four punts Saturday afternoon in Lakeland's 28-0 shutout over Maranatha. He boomed a 52 yard punt into the end zone after the Muskies' first possession of the game, the longest kick of his career.
"Nic did a really nice job this past week," Lakeland head coach Kevin Doherty said. "A lot of people don't realize what it means to have a great punting game. He helped give us field position for our defense to work with and we're really happy with how he's performed this season."
Lakeland heads to UW-Whitewater on Saturday, Nov. 21 for a noon kickoff to open the first round of the NCAA Div. III playoffs.
