Athletics - posted on 9/19/2010

The Lakeland women's soccer team beat Concordia University-Chicago, 2-1 in Northern Athletics Conference play Sunday afternoon in River Forest, Ill.

Concordia-Chicago scored first when Lyndsay Dyal was able to sneak  the ball past Lakeland goalkeeper, Ashley Sarbacker (Middleton, Wis.).

The Muskies quickly regrouped and scored just nine minutes later when junior forward Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan, Wis.), drilled the ball into the back of the Cougar's net.

After battling for a 1-1 first half, the Muskies were hungry to score another goal. With just four minutes left in the game, Lindsay Rogers capitalized on her second goal of the night to put Lakeland on top 2-1.

Head coach Tony Pierce was pleased with the team's effort.

"The girl's game ready to play today," said Pierce. "It was a great team effort and Lindsay did tremendous work on top and put two goals in for us. We created a lot of chances to score in the second half and Lindsay finally capitalized for us to win the game."

The Muskies improve to 1-2 in NAC and 2-6 overall.

Lakeland returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 23 against Beloit College in Beloit, Wis. Start time is 7 p.m.
