The Lakeland women's soccer team lost, 6-3 to Ripon College in a non-conference match Wednesday evening at Muskie Field.

The Red Hawks scored first after Shelby Wise nailed a penalty kick in the 12th minute of the game. Shortly after, Ripon scored again when Rachel Martzahl found the back of Lakeland's net in the 13th minute. Scoring the third goal of the half for Ripon was Aimee Prudhomme.

Ripon's 3-0 lead didn't stop junior forward Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan, Wis.) from scoring. Rogers scored just before time expired in the first half to put the Muskies on the board, 3-1at halftime.

Trailing by two goals, Rogers came out fierce in the second half and scored her second goal of the game to make it, 3-2.

After Rogers scored her second goal, The Red Hawks went on the attack and found the back of the net three more times.

Head coach Tony Pierce thought the team played well, but let the game slip away.

"We put ourselves within one goal after being down 3-0, but we let the game slip away," said Pierce. "We exposed ourselves in the back too much especially when we went on the counter attack."

Junior Dana Schmidt (Menasha, Wis.) also scored for Lakeland. In the 81st minute of the game, Schmidt dribbled through three defenders and drilled the ball past Ripon's goalkeeper.

Lakeland returns to Northern Athletics Conference action Saturday, Oct. 2 against Rockford College. Game time is 11:30 a.m. at Muskie Field.
