Lakeland falls short against MSOE
Athletics - posted on 10/13/2010
The Lakeland College women's soccer team lost, 5-1 to the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Northern Athletics Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Muskie Field.
The Raiders scored early in the game as freshman forward Paula Bohl was able to find the back of Lakeland's net in the fourth minute of the game. Jessica Axt scored again for MSOE in the 22nd minute to put the Raiders on top, 2-0.
Lakeland battled in the first half and found themselves within one goal from MSOE. Junior midfielder Kristina Borts (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored in the 30th minute on an assist by junior forward Ashley Meyer (Hinckley, Ill.), to make it a 2-1 game at half.
The Raiders proved their second half dominance by scoring three more times to give MSOE the conference win.
Head coach Tony Pierce was pleased with the team's first half effort, but thought the team broke down in the second half.
"We played well in the first half," said Pierce. "We had a game going for ourselves at the half, but we weren't able to string together passes or capitalize on our opportunities."
Lakeland returns to NAC action on Saturday, Oct. 16 on the road against Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wis. Game time is noon.
