Early goals cost Lakeland in 2-1 loss

SHEBOYGAN, Wis.--The Lakeland College women's soccer team lost, 2-1to Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Northern Athletics Conference action Tuesday afternoon at Muskie field.
The Crusaders scored two early goals that Lakeland was never fully able to recover from. Elise Jones scored off a free kick in the third minute and Karis Rogers scored in the 16th minute to go up, 2-0 over the Muskies.
The Muskies scored just before half as junior forward Lindsay Rogers (Sheboygan, Wis.) found the back of the Crusaders net in the 39th minute.
Despite a solid second-half effort, Maranatha was able to hold off Lakeland for the NAC win.
"We had a lot of opportunities to tie the game in the second half," said head coach Tony Pierce. "We just couldn't finish."
Lakeland returns to NAC action on Sunday, Oct. 24 against Aurora University in Aurora, Ill. Game time is 2 p.m.
