men's soccer falls in home opener
Athletics - posted on 9/8/2010
The Lakeland men's soccer team lost in its home opener 3-1 to Ripon College Wednesday evening.
Junior forward Jeremy Hardy (Cooks, Mich.) scored in the third minute to put the Muskies on top. Lakeland shutout the Red Hawks in the first half, but Ripon was able to find the back of the net three times in the second half.
"We played pretty well in the first half and we knew coming into the game that they were going to be aggressive and create chances for themselves. In the second half we didn't match their intensity level and we got out worked," said head coach Tony Pierce.
The Red Hawks created scoring chances and capitalized off of Lakeland's mistakes.
"They kept coming and forcing us to make mistakes. We can't allow ourselves to be out worked. We have to match our opponent's intensity and continue to play," said Pierce.
Lakeland returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 11 against Northern Athletics Conference foe, Benedictine. Start time is 3:30 p.m.
