The Lakeland men's volleyball team suffered a 25-18, 25-23, 25-23 defeat at UW-Oshkosh Thursday night in a Wisconsin Volleyball Conference contest.

The Muskies (3-1 overall, 3-1 WVC), who hadn't dropped a set all season, played a solid match despite the sweep against UW-Oshkosh, last year's national runner-up.

"It was a close match," Lakeland coach Chad Schreiber. "UW-Oshkosh played flawless. We needed to make adjustments throughout the match and never got into a groove."

Outside hitter Joe Julkowski (Carol Stream, Ill.) led the Lakeland offense with 12 kills, while senior Dan Judkins (Kaukauna, Wis.) added 11 kills. Junior setter Chris Kubacki (Vernon Hills, Ill.) posted 28 assists.

Defensively, the Muskies were led by sophomore Andrew Cheever (Milwaukee, Wis.), who had nine digs.

"I'm never happy with a loss, but I'm pleased that it was close despite all the areas of our game we need to work on," Schreiber said.

Lakeland, a national semifinalist last season, shared the 2009 WVC regular season title with the Titans.

The Muskies head to DeKalb, Ill., this Saturday for a Midwest 10 Playdate, which features top teams from around the region. Opponents and match times are TBA.
