Muskies split duals at Dubuque

The Lakeland wrestling team defeated Loras 26-21 in its second match-up Saturday at the University of Dubuque Duals in Dubuque, Iowa.

The Muskies (2-5) were knocked off earlier in the day by No. 16 Dubuque 29-12 to split the dual matches.

Against Loras, sophomore Nick Kusta (Chicago Ridge, Ill.) gave Lakeland a 16-15 advantage with a 16-6 major decision over Colin Hagerty at 149 pounds.

The Muskies wouldn't relinquish the lead, as freshman Ryan Renon (De Pere, Wis.) and senior captain Jacob Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) recorded victories by major decision and by fall, respectively.

Against Dubuque, freshman Cory Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind.) took home a win by forfeit, while Jacob Frias and sophomore Rob Frias (Oak Lawn, Ill.) each won by decision.

Jacob and Rob Frias, who are brothers, each finished 2-0 on the day.

The Muskies return to action on Sunday, Dec. 20, at the Purdue Duals. Action begins at 11 a.m. in West Lafayette, Ind.
