Sophomore Jake Montie collected two of the Muskies' four pins Saturday afternoon as the Lakeland wrestling team swept all three of its matches in the Lakeland College Multi-Duals.
"Jake wrestled awesome today," Lakeland head coach Pete Rogers said. "He looked comfortable and confident in his matches. He came into this season with lots of potential and has had to deal with injuries this year, but he's come out of that looking great, and I'm excited to see what he can do in the next couple of weeks."
His first pin came in Lakeland's first match of the day at 141 pounds against Casey Krahn of Wheaton in 2:21. Isaac Roberson (149) and Ben Chapman (151) followed with decisive victories, defeating their opponents 26-11 and 10-0, respectively, before Jacob Frias (165) recorded the final Lakeland victory with a 4-3 decision for a 36-9 team win.
The Muskies followed in round two with pins in all three matches against Maranatha en route to a 48-6 victory. Montie recorded his second pin of the day as Ryan Renon (174) finished Peter Thompson in 1:00 and Adam Sutter pinned Chris Kehoe at :46 in his lone match of the day.
Trailing 16-6 against UW-Oshkosh in round three, Lakeland rattled off four victories with wins from Chapman, Frias, Renon and AJ Aronstam in the final five matches and received a forfeit at HWT to cap off a 25-19 win.
"We're excited with how we're performing right now," Rogers said. "We have high expectations and no one is content with where they're at right now. Dealing with so many injuries has made competing at duals difficult but we're setting up to perform at tournaments very well.
Lakeland returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Al Hanke Invite hosted by Elmhurst.
