Athletics - posted on 1/12/2010

Senior midfielder Celine Elzinga and the Lakeland College women's soccer team have each received honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Elzinga (Howards Grove), an art major with a 3.66 GPA, received Scholar All-Region Honorable Mention. She appeared in 16 matches last season while recording an assist and seven shots. She is one of six Northern Athletics Conference student athletes to receive accolades from the NSCAA.

The Lakeland women's soccer squad was one of 68 NCAA teams to receive the NSCAA Team Ethics Award, which " recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the Laws of the Game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season." The Muskies received Bronze status by picking up just six yellow cards on the season and were one of two NAC institutions to be honored.
