Schwarz nets second NAC Player of the Week honor
Athletics - posted on 2/8/2010
Lakeland sophomore Jake Schwarz has been selected as the Northern Athletics Conference Student-Athlete of the Week in men's basketball for the week of Feb. 1-7, the league announced Monday.

Schwarz, a 6-foot-5 forward, converted a tip-in at the buzzer Saturday to give the Muskies a 70-69 home victory over Dominican. The Sheboygan, Wis., native leaned back and tipped in a missed lay-up by sophomore guard Josh Regal just moments before the final buzzer sounded, sending the Lakeland bench and crowd into a frenzy.
"Jake is a very gifted offensive player," Lakeland coach Aaron Aanonsen said. "We always emphasize going to the glass, and Jake made a great play. He continues to come up big down the stretch for us."
Schwarz finished with game highs of 25 points and 18 rebounds, which tied his career best.
On Tuesday, Schwarz led the Muskies with 20 points and 15 rebounds in a 69-55 triumph at NAC North Division leader Edgewood, which completed a season sweep of the rival eagles.
Schwarz leads the conference in scoring with 24.2 points per game, and was third in the nation in scoring as of Jan. 31. He is also third in the league in rebounding with 9.6 per contest, and is shooting 54.6 percent from the field and 82.5 percent from the free throw line.
Last season, Schwarz earned NAC honorable mention and All-Freshmen team honors after leading the team with 16.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest.
Each week, the league's head coaches nominate a player from their own team to be voted on for each sport by NAC sports information directors.
