Blahnik, Johnson collect top NAC awards

Senior forward KC Blahnik (Gladstone, Mich.) and head coach Teri Johnson were selected as Northern Athletics Conference women's basketball player of the year and coach of the year for the 2009-10 season.

Blahnik averaged 15.3 points per game, goof for fourth in the conference, and was sixth with 8.8 rebounds per game. She scored 30 points twice this season and recorded nine double-doubles.Her 73 steals on the year were a team high, and she ended the season with a .441 field goal percentage.

"Her progress this year has been outstanding," Johnson said. "She's an intense competitor that brings a tremendous work ethic every day. She sets a standard that makes her teammates better, and along with the other seniors has led us to success this season."

Junior Mary Dennewitz (Chicago, Ill.) was selected NAC Honorable Mention. Dennewitz averaged 9.6 points per game, second on the team, and led Lakeland with 1.5 3-pointers per game.

Katie Kilton (Waukesha, Wis.) was the Lakeland nomination to the conference All-Sportsmanship Team.

Johnson, in her third season at Lakeland, wins her first NAC coach of the year award. The Muskies' 22 wins this season are a program high under Johnson. A veteran of three NCAA Tournaments as a player and assistant coach, she heads to the NCAA Tournament for the first time as  head coach this weekend as Lakeland faces DePauw (Ind.) on Friday, Mar. 5, in Holland, Mich. at 4:30 p.m.
