Schwarz named first team All-Midwest region

Athletics - posted on 3/16/2010

Sophomore Jake Schwarz of the Lakeland men's basketball team was selected to the 2009-10 D3hoops.com All-Midwest Region first team, the website announced Tuesday.

Schwarz, a 6-foot-5 forward, finished sixth in the nation in scoring with 23.1 points per game, a mark which also led the Northern Athletics Conference. He also finished second in the league with 9.3 rebounds per game, and finished in the conference's top 10 in field goal percentage (.539) and free throw percentage (.825).

The Sheboygan, Wis., native was a dominant force on the offensive end for the Muskies during the 2009-10 season, combining solid perimeter shooting with a tenacity to score around the basket.

"Offensively, Jake expanded his range out to the arc, so he created some match-up difficulties for our league's post players," Lakeland coach Aaron Aanonsen said. "He felt confident in his abilities after feeling things out last year as a freshman."

Schwarz, who missed the team's last four games of the year with a knee injury, is also a first team All-NAC honoree. He was a two-time NAC Student-Athlete of the Week award winner during the year.

Last season, Schwarz was named to the league's All-Freshman team and received honorable mention accolades.

Schwarz is also eligible to be named to the D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be announced this Saturday.
