Senior Sara Roberts became the first pitcher in Lakeland softball history to collect 300 strikeouts during the Muskies' spring break trip in Tucson, Ariz.

Roberts (Escanaba, Mich.) reached the milestone during Lakeland's 7-2 victory against Augsburg on March 15. She gave up two runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out seven batters in her third start of the season.

A two-time Northern Athletics Conference first team all-conference selection and 2009 second team Great Lakes Region honoree, Roberts holds career program records in games started (84), innings pitched (492), strikeouts (313) and wins (58). She is also the single-season leader in games started (29), wins (21), innings pitched (173.7), earned run average (1.67) and shutouts (eight).

She has also been one of Lakeland's strongest bats this season with a team-high two home runs and 12 RBI's through 10 games.

"Sara has been a cornerstone of the program these past four seasons," Lakeland head coach Chad Buchmann said.  "She takes pride in being a winner and a leader on the field."

Lakeland (5-5) opens its 2010 home schedule on Saturday, April 3 at 1 p.m. with a doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch. Saturday will also be Strike Out Parkinson's Day. The Muskies are asking fans to wear gray to raise awareness for Parkinson's disease and will be holding a 50/50 raffle to raise proceeds for the Michael J. Fox Parkinson's foundation.
